High school roundup: Boys and girls basketball

Ryan Leary hit a pair of deep three-pointers with about four minutes left to help Carle Place come all the way back from a 15-point deficit and win it over Seaford, 58-56, in non-league boys basketball action on Friday afternoon.
Leary made a pair of free throws with 2:09 left to keep Carle Place (5-5) ahead for good. He finished with a double-double, with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Eighth-grader Caden Saccone added 14 points and six assists, and Mario D’Alessandro contributed 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the win.
Brian Falk led Seaford (2-6) with 19 points and Michael Spinella added 16.
Copiague 79, Newfield 59: King Moore and Ethan Abello scored 18 points apiece to lead Copiague (7-1) in Suffolk II. Moore had five rebounds and four steals and Abello totaled seven assists. Amari Greene contributed 10 points, six rebounds and six assists. Ranard Fields led Newfield (2-5) with 18 points. This was a makeup game from Dec. 27, which was postponed because of a snowstorm.
TUESDAY’S GAMES
Island Trees 58, MacArthur 49: Richie Montalvo scored 27 points to lead Island Trees (2-5) in non-league. Iben Angud added 10 points and Kurt Echezuria had seven points and a pair of three-point field goals in the win. Vinny Szucs led MacArthur (2-5) with 20 points, followed by Ivan Adonis with 14.
Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 51, Valley Stream North 47: Landon Lippman led all scorers with 21 points to lead Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (9-0) to a title in the Great Neck South Holiday Tournament. Lippman earned the tournament’s MVP. Matthew Hunt led Valley Stream North (6-3) with 16 points.
Baldwin 47, Elmont 38: Ethan Sainsbury had five points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals to lead Baldwin (4-1) in the Chanee Brown Holiday Tournament. Jourdan Williams had 14 points and six rebounds, and Mical Saint Jean added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists to earn all-tournament honors.
Center Moriches 77, Knox 67: Allan Whitty led all scorers with 27 points and completed a double-double with 14 rebounds to lead Center Moriches (5-1) to the title in the Anthony Parlato “Help Someone Today” Tournament. Anthony Huff chipped in 23 points. Jacob Sanon led Knox (7-1) with 21 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Carle Place 54, New Hyde Park 51: Alexa Mifsud scored 20 points to lead Carle Place (7-3) to the championship of the Carle Place Holiday Invitational. Tyler Reedy contributed 10 points in the win. Briann Noguera led New Hyde Park (4-4) with 17 points, followed by Maeve Downing with 16 and Kayden Erazo with 11.
Mepham 54, Herricks 50: Olivia Lettieri scored a career-high 25 points and hit seven three-point field goals to lead Mepham (5-4) in the consolation game of the Carle Place Holiday Invitational. She was selected to the all-tournament team. Bree McGovern added 12 points and Christina Eromon contributed 11. Ridima Sethi led Herricks (3-6) with 17 points.
Mount Sinai 44, Comsewogue 36: Mia Betancourt scored 24 points and dished for five assists, and Lexi Cergol posted a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals to lead Mount Sinai (6-3) in non-league. Addison Chartrand added six points, four rebounds and four steals in the win. Jayla Callendar led Comsewogue (3-6) with 21 points.
WEDNESDAY’S GAME
Kellenberg 49, Seaford 43: Michaela Ressegger scored 14 points and Ella Merkle added 13 to lead Kellenberg (4-5) to victory in the Coach Kight Invitational. Emily McGowan led all scorers with 18 points for Seaford (4-4).
TUESDAY’S GAMES
Half Hollow Hills West 56, Centereach 39: Amayah Burke led all scorers with 21 points on her way to being named MVP in the Cougar Classic as Half Hollow Hills West (6-2) defeated Centereach (5-1). Emily Johnson (15 points, seven rebounds, five assists) and Ella Corso (11 rebounds) were also selected to the all-tournament team for Hills West. Hayley Torres’ 10 points led Centereach.
Mineola 51, Hewlett 36: Caitlin Powers scored more than half of her team’s points, with 27 to lead Mineola (6-3) in non-league. Samaiya Lebron and Sophia Prudenti both added seven points. Kayla Owens scored 13 points and Mia Koloden had 12 points for Hewlett (1-6).
Plainedge 48, Calhoun 31: Peyton Wise posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Plainedge (7-2) in non-league. Delaney Auer contributed eight points and six rebounds, and Giovanna Pannitti chipped in six points in the victory. Angelica Kasimatis scored 10 points and Lia Biscardi had nine points for Calhoun (4-5).
