High school roundup: Boys and girls basketball playoff results

Down by one with 0.8 seconds left, Devin Byrne hit two free throws to lead No. 9 Lynbrook to a 51-50 win over top-seeded Malverne in the Nassau Class A boys basketball quarterfinals on Saturday. Byrne, who had 16 points, got to the free-throw line after a technical foul was issued to Malverne’s bench following Andrew Innocent’s go-ahead layup to give the Mules a 50-49 lead.
Orji Agwu had 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks, with one coming inside the final 15 seconds. Shane Lee led Malverne (16-5) with 13 points and Tristan Inswood had 11.
Lynbrook (16-6) will face No. 4 Friends Academy in the semifinals on Saturday at Farmingdale State.
Seaford 76, West Hempstead 71: Brian Falk scored 23 points to lift No. 6 Seaford past No. 3 West Hempstead in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Dylan Alt added 17 points and Tate Gatto scored 15. Alex Davis led West Hempstead (15-5) with 18 points and CJ Feglia had 17. Seaford (12-10) advances to face No. 2 Floral Park in the semifinal round at Farmingdale State on Saturday.
Valley Stream Central 66, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 42: Sean O’Neill had 19 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead No. 6 Valley Stream Central past No. 3 Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK in the Nassau Class AAA quarterfinals. Julian Vera had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, and his twin brother, Jaiya, had 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jordan Rabinovich led Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (16-5) with 13 points. Valley Stream Central (13-7) will face No. 2 Port Washington in the semifinals at Farmingdale State on March 1.
Portledge 72, Avenues 41: Carter Abrahams scored 26 points to lead No. 7 Portledge over No. 2 Avenues in the quarterfinals of the NYSAIS Class C playoffs. Josiah Warfield had 16 points and Jack Loeffler had 13 points. Portledge (11-14) will face the winner of No. 3 Friends Seminary/No. 6 Lehman in the semifinals on Monday.
GIRLS
Uniondale 44, Freeport 34: Zahara Saintyl scored 28 points to lead No. 7 Uniondale over No. 2 Freeport in the Nassau Class AAA quarterfinals. When the two teams met on Feb. 9, Freeport won, 59-25. Uniondale (9-9) will face No. 3 Massapequa in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. on March 1 at Farmingdale State. Madison Harris scored 15 points for Freeport (17-4).
Floral Park 51, Lynbrook 41: Abby Vitrano scored 17 points to lead No. 3 Floral Park over No. 6 Lynbrook in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Juliette Payoutte had 16 points and went 7-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Siena McCree added seven points and 14 rebounds. Floral Park (16-5) will face No. 2 Seaford in the semifinals at 8:30 on Friday at Farmingdale State. Natalie Kehoe had 10 points for Lynbrook (9-12).
Seaford 55, Malverne 35: Bridget Grosser had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals to lead No. 2 Seaford over No. 7 Malverne in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Emily McGowan had 19 points and three steals and Rylie Betz added 15 points and eight rebounds for Seaford (16-5). Autumn Williams led Malverne (12-9) with 18 points.
Wantagh 66, Locust Valley 43: Isabelle Ferraro had 23 points and five rebounds to lead No. 1 Wantagh over No. 8 Locust Valley in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals. Kayla Mannix had 17 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and five steals. Ella Perfetti added nine points and six rebounds. Wantagh (19-2) will face No. 4 Plainedge in the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Friday at Farmingdale State. Gwen Velsor scored 14 points for Locust Valley (9-11).
