Connor Ackerman's gem in Game 3 leads St. Dominic baseball to NSCHSAA championship

Connor Ackerman struck out five and allowed one earned run and six hits in 6 1⁄3 innings to lead No. 5 St. Dominic to a 4-1 win over No. 2 Kellenberg in Game 3 of the NSCHSAA baseball finals Tuesday at Hofstra.

The Bayhawks claimed their first league title since 2009. Tyler Camastro went 2-for-4 and recorded the final two outs for the save. Ray Kim, Dylan Weinstein and Dominc Muccia each had a hit and an RBI. St. Dominic (21-14) will play in the state CHSAA semifinal at St. John’s University on June 12. Kellenberg finished 17-11.

Oyster Bay 5, Cold Spring Harbor 4: Nick Von Bargen tossed a complete game and struck out five, allowing one earned run in No. 1 Oyster Bay’s win over Cold Spring Harbor in Game 1 of the Nassau Class B finals. Von Bargen also had two hits. Thomas Vidro went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Oyster Bay (18-4) will face Cold Spring Harbor (13-10) in Game 2 of the finals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Hofstra.

Sachem East 3, Longwood 1: Chris Ragona struck out 10 and allowed two hits and no earned runs in five innings to lead No. 5 Sachem East over No. 1 Longwood in a Suffolk Class AAA elimination game. Frank Greco had two RBIs. Xavier Gomez hit a double and scored a run. Nick Meyer entered in the seventh with no outs and two runners on and recorded the final three outs for the save. Sachem East (11-11) will visit No. 4 Commack in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Longwood finished 20-3.

SOFTBALL

Kings Park 1, Miller Place 0: Katherine Krayewski went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored the only run of the game in No. 2 Kings Park’s win over No. 1 Miller Place in the Suffolk Class A winners’ bracket final. Stella Roosa tossed a complete game, striking out 10 batters, and went 1-for-2. Kings Park (18-3) advanced to the final at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Park. Miller Place (17-4) will host the elimination bracket final at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sachem North 3, Commack 2: Shannon Forgione hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning and scored on Makayla Rimmers’ groundout in No. 1 Sachem North’s win over No. 2 Commack in the Suffolk Class AAA winners’ bracket final. Sachem North (21-2) advanced to the final at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Park. Kayla Hawkins hit an RBI double for Commack (19-4), which will host the elimination bracket final at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
