High school sports roundup: Michael VanRoten his winner for Massapequa boys basketball

Michael VanRoten hit the winning three-pointer with 17 seconds left in overtime to lead Massapequa to a 52-51 win over Uniondale in Nassau AAA-I boys basketball on Saturday. VanRoten had eight points and Tyler Byrnes added 16 points and 13 rebounds for Massapequa (13-5). Zahni Duncan and Mori Toney each scored 16 for Uniondale (9-9).
Farmingdale 46, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 43: Erik Kubelka had 19 points and three rebounds to lead Farmingdale (13-4) in Nassau AAA-II. Caden Lennon added eight points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Hosein scored 16 points for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (9-9).
Bay Shore 66, North Babylon 55: Carter Wilson had 27 points, seven assists and four rebounds to help Bay Shore (18-0) clinch the Suffolk II title. Christian Smiley added 13 points and seven rebounds and Tashawn Bumpers scored 13 points. Daniel Blake-Watson led North Babylon (10-7) with 25 points.
FRIDAY’S GAMES
Valley Steam Central 88, Herricks 83: Sean O’Neil scored eight of his 26 points in overtime to lead Valley Stream Central (8-9) in Nassau AA-III. Saige Frisco had 28 points and 12 rebounds, Jamin Legagneur added 16 points and six steals and Matthew Neckles had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Steve Aucilino scored 41 points and made eight three-pointers for Herricks (5-12).
Amityville 70, Comsewogue 68: Amir Dickerson scored seven of his 24 points in overtime to lead Amityville (10-7) in Suffolk IV. He also had eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Seville Williams had 19 points, six rebounds and six assists and RJ Varland hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime. Chris Beverly scored 26 points for Comsewogue (6-11).
Chaminade 103, St. Mary’s 96: Devin Dillon had 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead Chaminade (12-6) in CHSAA. Joe Knaus added 24 points and six rebounds and Kam Elliott scored 18 points. Jagger Bascombe scored 34 points and Cameron Serrano and Andrew John each had 18 points for St. Mary’s (5-12).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 62, Oceanside 46: Emma Heaney had 34 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK (13-5) in Nassau AAA-I. Rachel Ganz added 10 points. Brianna Amenta scored 18 points and surpassed 1,000 career points for Oceanside (9-9).
Long Beach 46, Great Neck South 42: Delaney Chernoff scored 14 points to lead Long Beach (7-11) in Nassau AA-I. Adora Cho scored 19 points and made five three-pointers for Great Neck South (1-15).
Sacred Heart 52, Our Lady of Mercy 31: Kate D’Alessandro had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sacred Heart (8-6) in CHSAA. Francesca Forgione added eight points. Sabrina Boyle scored 12 points for Our Lady of Mercy (1-9).
FRIDAY’S GAMES
Half Hollow Hills West 37, Eastport-South Manor 36: Ava Blasi made the winning free throw with 2.7 seconds left for Hills West (4-12) in Suffolk IV. Caitlyn Collymore added 11 points and three assists. Layla Bloxon scored 13 points for Eastport-South Manor (7-9).
Commack 42, Northport 39: Sofia Vasselman scored 11 points to lead Commack (17-0) in Suffolk II. Sienna Olivares added 10 points and Mia McBrien and Haley Loscalzo each grabbed 12 rebounds. Kennedy Radziul scored 17 points for Northport (12-5).
St. John the Baptist 40, Holy Trinity 33: Alex Brauer had 10 points and 18 rebounds, and her layup with 2:30 left gave St. John the Baptist (11-4) a 35-33 lead as the Cougars erased a 16-point halftime deficit in CHSAA. Emma Ryan had 18 points and 10 rebounds for St. John, which allowed one point in the second half. Morgan Konecky scored 10 points for Holy Trinity (3-12).
