High school roundup: Flag football, baseball, softball and lacrosse

Mia Mangano totaled 233 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns to lead Shoreham-Wading River to a 52-20 win over East Hampton in a Suffolk II flag football win on Wednesday. Mangano caught two TD passes, ran for two scores and returned a punt and an interception for TDs in the program’s first flag football game.
Shealyn Varbero completed 6 of 9 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns. Brenna Molinelli had seven carries for 142 yards and a TD. Ashley Morello caught a 50-yard TD pass.
Longwood 12, Ward Melville 0: Claire Sclafani completed 16 of 24 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns and pulled 10 flags to lead Longwood in its Suffolk I opener. Lianna Collazo caught a 54-yard TD pass and Aliyah Khamis had a 46-yard TD catch. Collazo and Khamis each added an interception.
TUESDAY’S GAME
West Babylon 16, Sayville 7: Samantha Serrano ran in the go-ahead 10-yard touchdown with 1:14 left to lift West Babylon in a Suffolk II opener. Jaelynn Burgess’ interception with 1:32 left set the Eagles up on Sayville’s 20-yard line. Burgess caught six passes for 106 yards and had three flag pulls. Talia Acevedo completed 16 of 30 passes for 195 yards, including a TD pass to Maria Nahas. Alyssa Dunsmore’s interception with 8 seconds remaining sealed the win.
BASEBALL
Long Island Lutheran 4, St. Peter’s 2: Luke Martone went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, including a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning to lead Long Island Lutheran in a non-league opener. TJ Borzumanto went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
TUESDAY’S GAME
Mineola 7, Lynbrook 4: Kelly Kostulias went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run to lead Mineola in a Nassau A opener. Fred Klauck struck out 11 in four innings and Joe Dunlop struck out five in three innings. Ryan Valente went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs. Paola Palleschi struck out six in four innings for Lynbrook.
SOFTBALL
Syosset 1, Seaford 0: Kate Leogas struck out seven and allowed three hits in a shutout and scored the go-ahead run on an error in the top of the seventh to lead Syosset in a Nassau I opener. Rylie Betz struck out nine for Seaford.
Northport 5, Connetquot 1: Shannon Gloeckner struck out 10 and allowed one run and two hits to lead Northport in a Suffolk II opener. Addison Acerra went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and Sierra Albano went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple. Jamie Anders and Lily McCabe each hit an RBI single.

Syosset 11, Smithtown East 7: Brody Waxer had four goals and three assists to lift Syosset (2-0) in non-league. Gio Accardo added three goals and two assists. Josh Weisenfeld made 10 saves and Aidan Cleary won 13 faceoffs. Campbell Cracchiola and Jack Reddock each had two goals for Smithtown East (0-1).

Harborfields 8, Commack 7: Nora Ruddy scored three goals to lead Harborfields (2-0) in non-league. Kasey Clegg had two goals and an assist. Taylor Cavanaugh had a goal and two assists. Sam Benedict had a goal and three assists for Commack (0-2).
