Ice hockey on Long Island is not recognized by the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association nor is it sanctioned. Neither Section VIII nor Section XI, the governing bodies of Nassau and Suffolk, respectively, oversee the privately run hockey leagues on Long Island. They are independently run by the New York Islanders High School Hockey League in Nassau and the Suffolk County High School Hockey League in Suffolk. The Catholic Schools play in the independently run Catholic High Schools Hockey League.
