Licata's hit scores Marino in Carey's win
Anthony Licata singled to score Mike Marino in the bottom of the 12th inning to give Carey an 11-10 win over Mepham Saturday in a Nassau Conference AA-I baseball game. Mepham had runners on second and third with one out in the eighth, but Kyle DeMeo got a strikeout and a fly out. He pitched 42/3 innings to get the win, allowing no hits, no walks and struck out seven. DeMeo hit a three-run homer in the fifth to give Carey (7-5) a 10-6 lead. Nick Vilchez went 3-for-4 with two walks, a home run and three RBIs. Mepham tied the score at 10 in the top of the seventh. Jericho 9, Valley Stream North 8: Brian Watt hit a two-run triple to give Jericho an 8-6 lead in the top of the fifth inning in Conference A-II. Brandon First had hit a two-run double in the sixth to tie the score at 6 for Jericho (6-6). Derek Hakim pitched the final 22/3 innings to get the save. Mineola 4, West Hempstead 0: John Caputo pitched a three-hitter with no walks and 10 strikeouts to lead Mineola (10-2) in Conference A-II. Ryan Jenkins' two-run single gave Mineola a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Brendan Maloney was 2-for-2 with a stolen base.
Long Beach 9, Hempstead 0: Eric Hirschbein threw a three-hitter, walked none and struck out six to lead Long Beach (4-4) in Conference AA-II. Danny Malone was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.Garden City 14, Herricks 5: James Cauchi went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Mike Giannone was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Garden City (7-5).
Sachem East 8, Patchogue-Medford 6: Michael Shada doubled to score Ryan Murphy to give Sachem East (4-8) a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth inning in Suffolk League I. Chris Carroll was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Greg Binfield was 2-for-4. Dylan Caruso pitched 12/3 scoreless innings to earn the save.
St. Anthony's 2, St. Mary's 1: Ben Moyette had an RBI-single in the fifth inning for the winning run for St. Anthony's in CHSAA. Tyler Lawrence was 1-for-3 with an RBI-double to tie the score at 1 in the fifth and he scored the go-ahead run. Billy Massa had five strikeouts in seven innings for St. Anthony's (7-3).
Floral Park 3, Sewanhaka 2: Matthew Phillips pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out five to get the win for Floral Park (8-5) in non-league at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island. Justin Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with a double for Sewanhaka.
