Melissa Alfaro’s 14 kills, two blocks and two aces led Newfield girls volleyball to a 3-2 win over Commack in a five-set thriller, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21, 18-25, 19-17, Monday in Suffolk II. Vitalina Paknis had 12 kills, 11 digs, a block and an ace, and Lily Kolasinski had 38 assists and four aces for Newfield (3-2).
Islip 3, Rocky Point 1: Jane Tierney had 17 kills and Cali Addeo had 15 kills and 11 digs for Islip (4-1) in its four-set win, 25-19, 24-26, 25-12, 25-14, in Suffolk V. Riley Haynes had 43 assists and 15 digs, and Jami Sullivan had nine kills and a block.

SATURDAY’S GAME
Long Island Lutheran 35, Boys Latin (Baltimore) 21: Peyton Robinson threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns to lead Long Island Lutheran (1-1) in a non-conference matchup. Jacob Butler caught six passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
FIELD HOCKEY
Whitman 2, Bay Shore/Islip 1: Mackenzie Marsden scored and assisted on the deciding goal by Kate Macaluso in the first quarter for Whitman (4-1) in Suffolk I. Chelsea Kluepfel scored for Bay Shore/Islip (3-2). Morgan Cousins had 10 saves.
BOYS SOCCER
Deer Park 1, Centereach 0: Adrian Islas sent a feed across the box to Yahav Krolewicz, who scored with 20 minutes left for Deer Park (4-1) in its 1-0 win in Suffolk II. Pearse Boylan made five saves to keep the clean sheet. Vincent Crescenzo had nine saves for Centereach (2-4).
Riverhead Charter 1, Center Moriches 0: Jesualdo Zavala-Avelar scored in the second half for Riverhead Charter (1-2) in Suffolk IV. Samuel Akinola made eight saves for the shutout.
GYMNASTICS
Middle Country 156.775, Connetquot 143.825: Christina Granada scored an 8.8 on vault to lead Middle Country in non-league. Avery Melchiona scored a 9.5 on floor for Connetquot.
