Mercurio leads Hampton Bays past Port Jeff
Luke Mercurio had 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half and went four-for-four from the free throw line in the final minute of the fourth quarter to lead Hampton Bays to a 51-45 win over Port Jefferson in League VII. Mercurio also had eight rebounds and Justin Carbone added 15 points for Hampton Bays (6-2).
Half Hollow Hills West 75, Hauppauge 23: Emile Blackman had a game-high 15 points and junior Fernando Vazquez added 11 points to lead Hills West (9-3, 7-1) in League IV. Hills West clinched a playoff berth for the seventh consecutive season, according to coach Bill Mitaritonna.
Smithtown West 61, Riverhead 55: Ryan Hickey had 24 points and five assists and Mike Biaridi had 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Smithtown West (3-4) in League III.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Copiague 58, Deer Park 52:Cypher McCloud had 12 points and 17 rebounds and Mikaiya Moore added 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Copiague (6-2) in League IV. Ihnacinse Grady grabbed an offensive rebound and found Twiggy Hamilton for a layup to give Copiague a 50-48 lead with just under five minutes left.
Whitman 63, Central Islip 42: Junior Katira Jemmott had a career-high 16 points and added six steals and five assists to lead Whitman (6-3) in League II. Kelly Bilodeau also had 16 points and junior Hayley Mena added a career-high 15 points. Brenda Hornedo had 21 points for Central Islip.
Bellport 58, Huntington 48: Arella Guirantes scored 13 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Bellport (5-3) in League IV.
Solomon Schechter 55, Our Savior New American 15: Amelia Bayroff scored 28 points and Sammi Albucker had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Solomon Schechter (9-2) in IPPSAL.
BOYS SWIMMING
Smithtown 93, Hauppauge 93: Michael Carlin won the 200-freestyle (1:55.68) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.97) for Smithtown (2-4-1). Justin Plaschka won the 200-individual medley (2:02.77) and the 100-backstroke (52.85) for Hauppauge.
