Meyer leads Longwood upset of Middle Country
Sophomore Brianna Meyer bowled 258 in the third game of a career-best 706 series as Longwood snapped Middle Country's 38-match winning streak with a 1,061-972, 974-1008, 1,000-840 victory in League II.
Kylie Spillett rolled 248 in Game 1 of a 698 series for Longwood. Middle Country (13-1), the defending Suffolk champion, hadn't lost a league match since the 2008-09 season.
"The girls were pumped, screaming and having a good time," aid Lions coach Chris MacKenzie, whose team improved to 11-4. "I think [this win] is gonna give us great momentum. We showed that we're a team to be reckoned with."
Kelly McDermott had a 577 series and Krista McDermott rolled a 549 series for Longwood.

Sachem East 99, Brentwood 65: Anthony Stefanelli set a school diving record with a 288 to lead Sachem East (1-1) in League I. Cameron Byrne won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.63 and the 100 breaststroke in a school-record 1:05.04.
Haupauge 106, Central Islip 74: Chris Whitehorn won the 200-yard IM (2:21.39) and Travis Maida won the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.63) to lead Hauppauge (2-0) in League II.
Boys track
The Kellenberg relay team of Dave Bransfield, Raul McGee, Dylan Murphy and Jim Agati took sixth in the 3,200 relay at the Millrose Qualifier at the Armory (8:10.01). Their time qualified for the Millrose Games Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden.
