North Shore girls set meet, LI record
The North Shore girls track team was at it again at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the 168th Street Armory Tuesday as the Vikings quartet of Brianna Nerud, Lea Farrell, Liz Caldwell and Samantha Nadel broke the meet and Long Island record in the distance medley relay, taking first in 11 minutes, 43.23 seconds.
North Shore bested the previous record of 11:43.50 set by Bay Shore in 2004. North Shore (Nerud, Caldwell, Nadel, Jessica Donohue) also set a meet record in the 4 x 800 meters, finishing first in 9:19.52. They beat the previous record of 9:31.10 set by Warwick in 2006.
In other girls events, Kellenberg's Odrine Belot and Brittany LeJuan took first in the triple jump relay (70-4 1/2) and helped the Firebirds take third overall. Kellenberg also finished second in the shuttle hurdle relay. Uniondale won the girls shuttle hurdle relay (33.38) and Garden City's Emma Gallagher won the Invitational 800 in 2:21.04.
In boys events, St. Anthony's won the DMR (10:43.99) and Uniondale won the triple jump relay (89-61/2).
