Nowak perfect as Plainege gains in softball

Senior Kim Nowak pitched her first career perfect game with eight strikeouts as No. 2 Plainedge (13-4) defeated No. 10 Valley Stream South, 3-0, Monday in the Class A softball quarterfinals. Jackie Oleksak hit a two-out, bases-clearing double in the sixth for Plainedge, which plays No. 3 Floral Park at 4 p.m. Thursday at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Baseball

Holy Trinity 11, St. Mary's 0: Senior Alex Robinson pitched his fourth career no-hitter, with two walks and a career-high 19 strikeouts for Holy Trinity (10-1) in CHSAA. Robinson struck out the side five out of the seven innings.

Island Trees 4, Division 3: Steve Connelly hit an eighth-inning, walk-off single with the bases loaded to drive in pinch runner Rocco Privitera and lead No. 8 Island Trees (14-5-2) over No. 10 Division in the second round of the Nassau Class A playoffs. Mike Jeannetti (3-for-4) hit a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3. Island Trees advances to the best-of-three quarterfinals.
