Roundup: Kowalsky has big day for Bellmore-Merrick
Austin Kowalsky won the 100-yard backstroke in a school-record 54.06 seconds to lead Bellmore-Merrick in a 57.5-44.5 win over Plainview JFK Wednesday in boys swimming. Kowalsky's time broke the mark of 55.1, which had been set by Mark Grabisch in 1989. He also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.02) and Kevin Moran won 1-meter diving (205.5).
Levittown District 51, Westbury 29: Tim Rice won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.57 and 200 freestyle in 2:27.70 to lead Levittown. Mike Roestenerg won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.90.
Sachem North 98, Sachem East 88: James Donlevy won the 50-yard freestyle (23.12) and 100 freestyle (50.99) to lead North. Donlevy was also part of the winning 200 and 400 relay teams.
BOYS BOWLING
Riverhead 2, Sachem East 1: John Horton shot a 268 in Game 1 of a 744 series to lead Riverhead (4-1 League III) in a 1,178-1,008, 1,055-1,048, 1,014-1,102 upset of the defending county champs. Jeremy Milito bowled a 706 series for Sachem East.
Middle Country 3, Whitman 0: Matt Skalacki had a 712 series with a 270 in Game 3 and Mike Ruben rolled a 652 series with a 240 in Game 3 for Middle Country (5-1 League II).
GIRLS BOWLING
Comsewogue 3, Central Islip 0: Deanna Clark rolled a 256 in Game 1 to lead Comsewogue (9-1 League II) in a 790-509, 786-630, 738-713 win. Ashya Manning had a 236 in Game 3 for Central Islip.
Smithtown 2, North Babylon 1: Victoria Bontempo bowled a 268 in Game 3 of a 661 series for Smithtown.
BOYS FENCING
Cold Spring Harbor 15, Great Neck North 12: Ben Israeli and A.J. Szilagyi each went 3-0 in foil and Michael Flanagan 3-0 in sabre for Cold Spring Harbor.
Wheatley 19, Manhasset 8: Charles Yu and Saad Khanzada each went 3-0 in foil and Liting Chiang 3-0 in sabre for Wheatley (4-1).

Ward Melville 50, Sachem North 18: Coach Bill DeSario notched his 300th career victory.
