High school sports roundup: Nassau badminton individual championships, plus soccer and field hockey scores

No. 2 Arthur Xu of Great Neck South defeated Plainview-Old Bethpage’s top-seeded Michael Li in a thrilling three-set match, 22-20, 10-21, 29-27, in the singles championship at the Nassau boys badminton individual tournament Saturday at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School.
No. 3 Owen He and Alex Li of Jericho won the doubles championship, battling back against top-seeded Botond Acosta and Mofan Yu of Great Neck South, 20-22, 21-19, 21-19. Xu, a sophomore, and seniors He and Li all became first-time champions.
BOYS SOCCER
Glenn 6, Southampton 0: Cooper Kassan scored a hat trick and Issac Perez added two goals for Glenn (13-2) in non-league. Jack Ziminski had a goal and three assists and David Palencia had his 11th shutout of the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Mount Sinai 4, Sayville 3: Alexa Cergol scored three goals, including the go-ahead goal in double overtime, to lead Mount Sinai (7-6-2) in Suffolk III. Emma Ramos added a goal and Charlotte Laraque made eight saves. Morgan Farrell had two assists for Sayville (12-2-1).
Half Hollow Hills West 1, Eastport-South Manor 0: Ella Candel scored the only goal off an assist from Victoria Valdes with 3:17 left in overtime to lead Hills West (9-2-1) in Suffolk II. Maeve Gayer recorded six saves for Eastport-South Manor (8-3-3).
Islip 1, Bayport-Blue Point 0: Abbigail Diuemegard scored the only goal to lead Islip (12-1) in Suffolk III. Alex Kaler made 13 saves for Bayport-Blue Point (10-4).
FIELD HOCKEY
Patchogue-Medford 2, Whitman 1: Kelynn Berard scored the winning goal in the shootout to lead PM (9-4) in Suffolk I. After a scoreless half, Sophia Fox scored off a cross from Sophia Randazzo to give PM the lead in the third quarter, but Whitman’s Jillian Kobel tied it with 4:38 left in the game. Sophia Fox added a goal in the shootout, and Kate Comiskey saved all four shots in the shootout. Andie Devinney made 11 saves for Whitman (8-5).
