Sachem East atop Big 10 as playoffs underway

Katie Shanahan scored twice and Allie Laird had two assists in a 3-0 win over Ward Melville, completing a third straight undefeated regular season for the Flaming Arrows (15-0). Sachem East, on a quest for a fourth straight Long Island Class A title, hosts Riverhead Tuesday in a quarterfinal.
The Chiefs head into the county playoffs after allowing only two goals this season. Andrew Prendergast led Conference AA-I with 10 goals, and goalie Zack Zaia led Long Island with 13 shutouts. The Chiefs (13-0-2) host Farmingdale at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
3. KINGS PARK GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Amanda Gannon had 12 kills as the Kingsmen concluded the regular season with a 3-0 win over Harborfields, extending their league win streak to 60 matches. Kings Park, the three-time defending Long Island Class A champ, will open the postseason on Friday.
The Lions are deep and ready to win another Long Island title. They dismantled Sachem North, 62-14, as Isaiah White rushed for 211 yards and scored five touchdowns. The Lions are 7-0.
Sophomore quarterback Jack Coan threw for 248 yards and four touchdowns and halfback Matt Selts added 157 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns to lead the Golden Flashes in a 49-7 win over Hauppauge. Sayville is 7-0.
The Friars, featuring multiple weapons with speed and tremendous possession skills, completed an unbeaten regular season. Francesca Venezia finished with 15 goals, and Mackenzie Kober had seven goals and 11 assists as St. Anthony's outscored opponents 63-5.
Mackenzie Palmer and the defending state champions earned the top seed and a first-round bye in the Nassau Class AA playoffs. They'll take on No. 8 Syosset Tuesday as they begin their quest for their 11th county title in the last 12 years.
8. ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Friars posted a perfect score en route to their team victory at the NSCHSAA at Sunken Meadow State Park on Sunday. Patrick Tucker won the 5K in 16:30.12. Frederick Buckholtz, Ryan Kutch, Ryan Dearie and Michael O'Leary rounded out the top five.
9. SACHEM NORTH BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Dylan Missry had 14 kills, Matt Grace added 12 kills and Rob Steinberg had 36 assists to lead Sachem North in a 3-0 win over Smithtown East. Sachem North has not dropped a game this season and has won 29 straight regular-season matches.
10. HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST GIRLS TENNIS
Vanessa Scott and Stephanie Chikvashvili captured the Suffolk County doubles championship on Monday for the defending county champions. The top- seeded Thunderbirds shut out Bayport-Blue Point, 7-0, in the quarterfinal round.
