1. SACRED HEART GIRLS SOCCER

The defending state CHSAA champions have beaten South Side, Garden City, Kellenberg and Holy Trinity to open the fall. Newsday All-Long Island selection Caitlin Kennedy leads the team with seven goals and five assists and Sara Micheli has five shutouts.

2. CONNETQUOT GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Off to a perfect start, the Thunderbirds again look like Long Island’s best team. Cassandra Patsos has been a force in the middle, and Skyla Schoppmeyer had eight digs in the Thunderbirds’ 3-0 sweep of Whitman.

3. NORTHPORT GIRLS SOCCER

The Suffolk AA defending champions have been dominant this fall, scoring at least six goals in five games. The Tigers are led by Emily McNelis (eight goals, seven assists), Victoria Colatosti (nine goals, two assists) and Juliana Conforti (four goals, five assists).

4. EASTPORT-SOUTH MANOR FIELD HOCKEY

The Sharks’ strong defense has not allowed a goal in their last five games. They beat previously unbeaten Smithtown East, 3-0, to improve to 8-0. Kasey Choma leads the Island with 14 goals.

5. COMMACK BOYS SOCCER

Matt Cozetti (seven goals, two assists) and goalkeeper Brian Mirman (five shutouts) lead the Cougars, who sit atop the ultra-competitive Suffolk I standings at 7-0-1.

6. WARD MELVILLE FIELD HOCKEY

The Patriots edged Northport, 3-2 and have an 8-0 record. Kate Mulham scored two goals and had an assist.

7. SAYVILLE BOYS GOLF

Sayville was the Suffolk runner-up a year ago and bring back a deep team led by seniors Sean Haselton and Brendan Smith. Junior Eric Foster shot a 1-over 37 against both Islip and Babylon earlier this season.

8. SACHEM NORTH BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Connor Pallmann, Jack Driscoll and Alec Lehnert lead undefeated Sachem North looking to win the Suffolk AA title.

9. BELLMORE-MERRICK GIRLS SWIMMING

The team tied for first place at the Nassau Relay Carnival and had Elizabeth Walsh qualify for the state tournament in the 200-yard IM (2:10.23) and the 100-yard butterfly (:58.32).

10. HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST GIRLS TENNIS

Reigning county doubles champions Lauren Cherkin and Ariana Malik lead the Thunderbirds, who return eight other players from a team that reached last year’s county finals. They have won 55 of 63 individual matches this season.
