Sarah Minicozzi rolls a 212 to help St. Dominic advance to semifinals
Sarah Minicozzi rolled a 212 in Game 3 of a 563 series as top-seeded St. Dominic beat No. 4 Kellenberg, 6-3, Wednesday in the CHSAA girls bowling semifinals. The Bayhawks topped Kellenberg 2,602-2,499 in total wood.
Bailey Lubrano had a 173 in Game 2 of a 510 series, and Meghan Barbari shot a 149 in Game 3 for the Bayhawks (11-0). St. Dominic, the defending champion, faces St. John the Baptist in the final Feb. 25 at Farmingdale Lanes.
"We had the benefit of continuity with four girls back from last year's team," said Bayhawks coach Mike Gordek, whose team won a title in its second year. "There's a lot more pressure this time, but my girls have been phenomenal in handling that."
boys basketballWesthampton 59, Bayport-Blue Point 52: Mike Frangeskos had 26 points and seven rebounds and Devonte Dixon had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 4 Westhampton (10-8) over No. 5 Bayport-Blue Point in a Class A quarterfinal. The win was the first playoff victory for Westhampton in 14 years. Westhampton will play top-seeded Amityville in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Smithtown East 49, Eastport-South Manor 43: Ryan Ingarozza had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three assists and Patrick Riccio scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead No. 15 Smithtown East (11-8) over No. 18 Eastport-South Manor in a Class AA Outbracket game. Smithtown East plays No. 2 Deer Park at 5 p.m. Friday in the first round.
