Alissa Schurr scored seven straight service points to begin the decisive fifth set as Carey edged Sewanhaka, 3-2, in a Nassau Conference A-III girls volleyball match yesterday.

Schurr finished with six aces, five kills and 12 assists, Megan Mannle chipped in 14 kills and four blocks and Sabrina Genna added five aces and five kills for Carey (7-7) in its 22-25, 25-20, 25-7, 17-25, 25-15 win.

Shoreham-Wading River 3, Southampton 0: Emma Houlihan had 13 kills, Chelsea Hughes had 11 kills, Tori Robinson added 23 assists, and Maddie Massa chipped in 15 digs as Shoreham-Wading River (6-3) clinched a playoff spot for the first time in seven years with a 25-12, 25-23, 25-19 win in Suffolk League III.

Clarke 3, Wantagh 2: Brandon Aran had 10 kills and 17 digs and Eitan Sheena had 14 kills, 10 digs and six aces for Clarke (7-0) in a 20-25, 25-16, 14-25, 25-15 Nassau Conference A-VI win.Ward Melville 3, Commack 0: DJ Celebucki had 10 kills to lead Ward Melville (6-4) in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 win in Suffolk League I.

Division 2, Glen Cove 1: Shane McLaughlin scored his second goal of the game off a cross from Justin Hansen in the 28th minute to put Division (8-1-1) ahead 2-0 in Nassau Conference A-V.

Christine Yasinsky took first in the all-around (33.8), winning the vault (8.25) and floor (9.2) for Whitman. West Islip 154.67, Harborfields 143.2: Paula Pecorella won the bars (8.25) for West Islip (3-0) in League II.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Farmingdale 53, Hewlett 47:Cindy Burhans (6:14.96) and Sarah Hecht (6:28.10) finished first and second in the 500-meter freestyle to lead Farmingdale (5-1) in Conference II.
