Yesterday's snowstorm forced the postponement of all Long Island high school sporting events.

The Suffolk boys and girls basketball games were postponed and no official makeup dates have been announced, though Section XI director Ed Cinelli was hopeful their games can be played Thursday.

"If school's in [Thursday], they'll have the opportunity to play the basketball games [Thursday night]," Cinelli said. "Nothing is definite yet and I have no idea how it will go. It all depends on how the weather clears up."

Nassau's first-round boys basketball playoff games will begin Friday afternoon, if the conditions allow. Should the inclement weather continue, those games would be moved to Saturday with start times to be determined.

Today's eight Nassau girls basketball playoffs games were still a go as of early last night, but will be rescheduled depending on the weather.

"If any school has to close and their game can't be played, we'll move them back to [Friday]," Nassau girls basketball coordinator Stephanie Joannon said. "And if there's a closure [Friday], we'll move it back to Saturday."

The Nassau boys and girls Class A track meet, initially booked for Wednesday, has been pushed to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Suffolk CC-Brentwood.

Yesterday's Nassau girls gymnastics Coaches Invitational was postponed indefinitely. Today's Nassau individual tournament / state qualifier was rescheduled for Feb. 23 at Bethpage, according to section coordinator Kim Rhatigan, who is the Bethpage coach.

"One of the districts involved in the meet, their school is closed," Rhatigan said. "I verified with [Section VIII executive director] Todd Heimer that it's the protocol if the school is closed and their athlete can't compete, we can't host the state qualifier without them. It would be unfair."

Rhatigan said the Coaches Invitational would likely be pushed back until after the state tournament Feb. 27.
