Softball settles for silver
The Long Island women’s Open team ran into too much pitching and defense and fell to hometown favorite Western New York, 3-0, on Saturday in the softball gold-medal game. Lindsey Morris tossed the shutout for WNY, but got plenty of help from her infield, which made several outstanding plays. The Long Island team also got great pitching, as Megan Butterworth struck out nine in seven innings. But all three WNY runs were unearned and the result of infield errors.
