Less than 30 minutes had passed since the baseball team won its county championship, but the Carle Place softball team was ready to add another plaque to the school’s collection.
The Frogs defeated East Rockaway, 10-0, in Game 2 of the Nassau Class B championship series at Farmingdale State on Sunday morning, clinching their second straight county title.
“We have a lot of CP pride. Our sports are one of the main things in the school,” Marissa Nosovitch said. “Winning it all for the school is exciting and even more so that both teams did it together.”
Nosovitch, who allowed one hit and struck out 10, hasn’t allowed a run in four playoff starts. East Rockaway’s Isabella DeCunzo singled in the first inning and was the only baserunner for the Rocks.
“Knowing I can trust my defense allows me to go out and pitch without stressing,” Nosovitch said. “Once we get one hit, I know more are coming and that allows me to relax even more.”
The Frogs haven’t needed much run support behind Nosovitch, but the bats have come through. Carle Place has scored double-digit runs in each of its four playoff games, including an 11-0 win over East Rockaway in Game 1 on Saturday.
Carle Place scored four runs in the third inning for the second straight day. Holly Loredo entered as the courtesy runner for catcher Sofia Arnone, who had singled to lead off the third, and scored on a passed ball with two outs. Isabella Roman doubled to drive in Nosovitch and give Carle Place a 4-0 lead.
Giulia Scibilia doubled to drive in Isabella DeGroot with one out in the fifth and Nosovitch followed with an RBI single to give the Frogs a 6-0 lead.
“We felt like we had to show up this year,” Scibilia said. “It’s tough coming back and trying to win it all again, but we’ve played well this postseason. Hopefully we keep it up.”
Aryanna Perea doubled to drive in two runs in the top of the seventh and scored on Olivia DeMicco’s single to put Carle Place ahead 10-0.
Alyssa Allen guided Carle Place to a county title repeat in her first year as coach. The former Carle Place graduate gave birth to the newest addition to her family just a week ago but still had the energy to be in the dugout leading her group.
“I feed off the energy of the girls. They bring the intensity,” Allen said. “This program means so much to me. We had different goals this season and are ready to take the next step.”
Carle Place (18-5) will take on Babylon in the Long Island Class B championship game at 7 p.m. on June 4 at Farmingdale State. The Frogs defeated Babylon, 7-2, in last year’s Long Island championship game.
