Carle Place gets one hit in state Class B softball semifinal loss to Chatham

BINGHAMTON — Carle Place took an early three-run lead before its offense stalled, preventing the Frogs from advancing in the state tournament.
Chatham (Section II) defeated Carle Place, 6-3, in the state Class B softball semifinals at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park on Friday. The Frogs had only one hit.
Alexa Mifsud drew a walk and scored on Marissa Nosovitch’s sacrifice fly to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead in the first inning. An error allowed Aryanna Perea to score and Isabella Roman scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 3-0.
“This is a different environment and a different level of competition,” Carle Place coach Alyssa Allen said. “This is the best you’re going to face in the state.”
Nosovitch kept Chatham hitless through four innings. Addison Perry had Chatham’s first hit with none out in the fifth to put runners on first and second, and Anna Friedman doubled home two runs to tie the score at 3.
“It felt like we wanted it more, but it didn’t work out in the end how we thought it would,” Nosovitch said. “We’ve been playing together since we were little and I’m a senior now. It’s really hitting now that this was my last game with them, but this was the best season I could’ve asked for. ”
Aubrey Rowe scored on a passed ball and Perry singled to drive in two runs and give Chatham a 6-3 lead in the sixth.
“You start playing better teams and they’re going to get their hits,” Nosovitch said. “They made good contact and we weren’t as prepared for that as we should’ve been.”
Carle Place won its second straight Long Island Class B title this season under Allen, who was in her first year as coach of the Frogs.
“Even when I was exhausted, coming to softball with these girls was my favorite part of the day,” Allen said. “I love being able to coach this group. Guiding them to a Long Island championship and bringing them to Binghamton was an incredible opportunity.”
Chatham will face Haverling (V) in the state final on Saturday.
