St. Dom's John Mione tosses no-hitter
Senior John Mione struck out three and faced the minimum of 18 batters in a six-inning no-hitter as St. Dominic's blanked St. John the Baptist, 15-0, in CHSAA baseball Friday.
It was the second no-hitter for Mione, who didn't walk a batter. Troy Scocca was 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, five RBIs and three runs scored for St. Dominic (10-3).
Smithtown West 3, Whitman 2: Anthony Treccariche gave up two runs on four hits over five innings as Smithtown West (11-6, Suffolk League III) clinched a playoff berth. Dennis Makofske struck out two in two hitless innings for the save and Steven McDermott scored the winning run on an error in the third inning. Nick Grande and Brandon LaManna each had an RBI in the win.
West Islip 6, Half Hollow Hills East 1: Joe Broderick struck out eight in a three-hitter to lift West Islip (10-7) in League III. David Anholder was 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the win.
Central Islip 3, Smithtown East 1: Dan Rosario's RBI single in the third inning gave Central Islip (2-15) a 2-1 lead in League III. Juan-Luis Morel-Cabrera gave up a run on four hits with six strikeouts, and on offense he was 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
Oceanside 5, East Meadow 3: Brian Lau was 2-for-4 with a run and Fran Rapp had a hit, an RBI and a run as Oceanside (11-4) erased a 2-0 deficit with a five-run third in Nassau Conference AA-II. James Long struck out six and allowed two earned runs in a complete game. BOYS LACROSSE
Massapequa 11, MacArthur 5: Paul Bentz had three goals and two assists, James Byrns had three goals and an assist and Craig Berge had five assists for Massapequa (6-0) in Conference I.Great Neck North 15, Glen Cove 3: Robert Campbell had four goals and two assists, Desmond Scanlon had two goals and four assists and Oliver Elihu won 16 of 17 faceoffs for Great Neck North (5-1) in Conference II.Lynbrook 11, Sewanhaka 5: Nicholas LoCicero had two goals and four assists to lead Lynbrook (5-1) in Conference III. Huntington 13, Islip 4: Christian Fiordelisi had four goals and an assist and John Vanderschuyt won 10 of 14 faceoffs to lead Huntington (10-2) in Division II.
