ITHACA -- Molly Treble isn't just good. She's All-American good. The Massapequa senior put her stamp on the State Swimming and Diving Championships yesterday afternoon at Ithaca College. Treble swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 49.28 seconds in the preliminary round, and that time earned her automatic All-American status. She's also seeded No. 1 for today's finals.

"I was very excited. I wasn't expecting to go that fast,'' said Treble, who nailed her turns, something she's worked on in practice.

"We've been doing a lot of yardage to prepare for something like this,'' Treble said.

Treble is also the top seed in the 500 freestyle after clocking 4:53.08 -- more than 8 seconds faster than her county championship time two weeks ago.

And, as defending state champion in the 500, Treble has extra incentive to win that event.

"It would be nice to defend the title,'' Treble said. "But, whatever happens, happens.''

Molly's sister Cara, a sophomore, swam the 50 freestyle in 23.72 seconds, good for All-American consideration. She won't find out if that brings All-American status until all 50 states have completed their seasons.

"I hit my turns well. I was fast over the top and had good positioning. I kicked the whole race, keeping my feet moving,'' said Cara, who also qualified in the 100 free.

Long Island sends 16 swimmers and five relays to the finals. Other double qualifiers are Babylon's Julianne Koch, Bellmore JFK's Kerry Giovanniello and Paige Kaplan, Northport's Nicole Papsco, Long Beach's Margaret Arosety and East Hampton/ Bridgehampton/Pierson's Marina Preiss.

Aroesty, a freshman, is the No. 1 seed in the 100 breaststroke after her time of 1:04.33, while Bellmore-JFK qualified all three of its relay teams.
