Last year, they led all of <a href="/topics//Long_Island,_NY">Long Island</a> with a 1,045 average (even ahead of the boys teams), dominated the <a href="/topics//Suffolk_County,_NY">Suffolk</a> Tournament and took second in states. Lena Sorrentino (205), Olivia Lopera (211) and Kelsey Fryer (191) lead. 
 2. <a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=19-21">LONG ISLAND</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=19-21"> LUTHERAN BOYS BASKETBALL.</a> Center Kentan Facey anchors a defense that also features ball-hawking guards Chris Atkinson, Tim Quashie and Mical-Ryan Boyd. The Crusaders play a rugged schedule and have beaten top L.I. public schools at <a href="/topics//Farmingdale,_NY">Farmingdale</a>, <a href="/topics//Deer_Park,_NY">Deer Park</a> and Harborfields. 
 3. <a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=66-56">SACHEM EAST WRESTLING.</a> Sachem East's roster is deep and talented. Led by 145-pounder Jackson Mordente, the Flaming Arrows are strong through the middle of the lineup with Jakob Restreppo and Conor O'Hara manning the 132/138 pound slots and also have strength in the heavier weight classes with Christian Nunez and John Vigh at 195/220 pounds. 
 4. <a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=54-23">WARD </a><a href="/topics//Melville,_NY">MELVILLE</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=54-23"> GIRLS FENCING</a>. Ward <a href="/topics//Melville,_NY">Melville</a> is 4-0 and has not lost a match in 11 years, a 163-match win streak. Despite graduating four starters, they return a talented sabre team including Alexa Rohan, Alexa Antipas and Kacy Charpin. The Patriots won their 10th straight Long Island title last season. 
 5. <a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=54-4">WARD MELVILLE BOYS FENCING.</a> Ward Melville has a top notch foil team with sophomore Michael Antipas, ranked 23rd nationally in his age group, leading the way. He's joined by senior teammates Matt Petrie and Devon Reina. The Ward Melville boys are 4-0 and in search of their sixth straight Long Island title. 
 6. <a href="/topics//Uniondale,_NY">UNIONDALE</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=183-6"> BOYS TRACK.</a> The defending <a href="/topics//Nassau_County,_NY">Nassau</a> champions have depth and will win behind senior Jlan Johnson, who came in first place in the 55 meters in a Nassau crossover meet, finishing in 6.88 seconds. 
 7. <a href="/topics//Wantagh,_NY">WANTAGH</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=188-56"> WRESTLING.</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=188-56"> </a>The Warriors were the top ranked Large Schools team in the state in 2012. They are 4-0 and led by Dan McDevitt (170), Jon Loew (99) and Chris Araoz (126). The Warriors had impressive dual meet wins over Sachem North and <a href="/topics//East_Islip,_NY">East Islip</a> at the <a href="/topics//David_Bloom">David Bloom</a> Memorial Duals.

They went on to take third in the state tournament. Middle Country is second on L.I. with a 1,081 average and is led by Mike Ruben, who has a 236 average. Ruben and Andrew Rosenblatt both rolled 300 games on the same day last week. 
 9. <a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=32-34">HALF HOLLOW HILLS HOCKEY.</a><a href="http://scores.newsday.com/sports/highschool/team.php?id=32-34"> </a>The high-octane Half Hollow Hills (11-1) are still rolling. Four of their last five wins are shutouts, and Ben Sorkin continues his torrid pace with 29 goals and 15 assists in 12 games.

Jon Cheadle is one of the top bowlers with a 218 average. Jacob Klein leads with a 237 average and Nick DeFazio has a 226. They were a young team last year and they're now coming into their own. 
 On the outside looking in: St. Anthony's girls basketball, Long Island Lutheran girls basketball, St. Mary's boys basketball, Connetquot/Sayville hockey.
