Newsday's annual list of the top girls track and field athletes as the 2024 spring season unfolds. Athletes are listed in alphabetical order, and stats are from last spring unless otherwise noted.

Jessica Alessi, Syosset, Jr.

She won the 1,500 meters in 4:43.64 at the Nassau Class AAA outdoor championship. She ran 9:57.99 for eighth place in the Division I 3,000 at last spring’s state championship.

Niomi Allison, West Babylon, Jr.

She ran 1:05.11 for 10th in the Division I 400 hurdles at outdoor state championship -- and a 1:04.53 at the state qualifiers a week earlier.

Chica Akazi, Uniondale, Sr.

Akazi won the indoor 55 hurdles state championship in 8.21 in March. She took third in the Division I 100 hurdles in 14.60 at the outdoor state championship.

Mullane Baumiller, Sayville, Sr.

The Boston University commit has won the last two Suffolk Class B 3,000 outdoor titles. Baumiller ran 10:17.75 to retain her crown before running 10:34.92 at the state championship.

Abby Callinan, Sachem East, Sr.

Callinan won the outdoor Suffolk Class AA 1,500 walk championship in 7:18.19. She took fourth in the same event at the Nike Indoor Nationals this March in 7:07.77.

Kayleanne Campbell, Riverhead, Jr.

Campbell cleared 5-5 in the high jump at the Long Island Elite Meet in February. She cleared 5-3 in last year’s outdoor high jump state championship.

Ashley Carillo, Port Washington, Jr.

She ran 10:44.40 for second in the 3,000 at the Nassau outdoor state qualifiers. She ran 2:59.70 for 16th in the 1,000 at the indoor state championship in March.

Laila Cole, Center Moriches, Soph.

Cole ran 25.30 for fifth place in the 200 at the Division II state championship. She ran 12.43 in the 100 at the Suffolk Class C championship.

Lexie Cole, Comsewogue, Fr.

She took fourth in the Division I 2,000 steeplechase state championship in 7:03.00. She ran 6:56.85 in the event at the Suffolk state qualifier.

Camryn Daley, St. Anthony’s, Sr.

She ran 7.37 for third in the indoor 55 to help lead the Friars to a CHSAA Intersectional championship in February.

Victoria Daniel, South Side, Jr.

She took second in the 100 (12.48) and the 100 hurdles (15.59) at the Nassau Class AA championship last May.

Aislinn Frazer, Friends Academy, Jr.

She ran 4:44.82 for seventh in the Division II 1,500 and 10:02.34 for seventh in the Division II 3,000 at the outdoor state championship.

Laina Friedmann, Smithtown West, Sr.

Friedmann ran 2:10.31 for fifth in the Division I 800 at the outdoor state championship. She took second in the indoor 1,000 state championship in 2:49.41 in March.

Ashley Fulton, Elmont, Sr.

The Clemson commit won the Division I state title in the 100 in 11.88 last June. She won the state Federation 300 in 38.15 at the indoor state championship in March.

Cali Gabrielson, Mt. Sinai, 8th grade

She ran 4:58.06 in the outdoor 1,500 and 10:52.32 in the 3,000. She was one of only two Long Islanders to qualify for the Nike Cross National meet this fall.

Maeve Going, Sacred Heart, Soph.

Going won the CHSAA Intersectional indoor title in the 3,000 in 10:06.56. She ran 2:59.77 in the indoor 1,000 in March.

Riley Griffith, St. Anthony’s, Sr.

The Louisville commit ran 4:47.66 to win the 1,500 at the CHSAA Intersectional outdoor championship.

Madison Guerrera, St. John the Baptist, Jr.

Guerrera is the top returner from the 100 hurdles at the CHSAA Intersectional championship, where she ran 16.11. She took first in the 55 hurdles in 8.60 at the indoor intersectional in February.

Zaria Hall, East Meadow, Soph.

Hall was Newsday’s Nassau cross country runner of the year in the fall. She took eighth in last spring’s Division I 1,500 state championship in 4:36.99.

Sophia Hines, Calhoun, Sr.

She took eighth in the Federation triple jump by jumping 36-5 ¾. In March, she triple-jumped 38-8 ¾ for second at the indoor state championship.

Imani Hood, Islip, Soph.

She won the Suffolk Class B title in the 100 (12.37) and the 200 (25.55) as a freshman.

Kelly Hughes, Mt. Sinai, Jr.

She ran 58.89 for eighth in the Division II 400 at the outdoor state championship. She won the long jump (17-6 ½) at the Suffolk Class C championship.

Alexa Jacobs, Port Jefferson, Soph.

After winning the 100 at the Suffolk Class C championships in 12.42 seconds, Jacobs bested that time to win the Division II state title in 12.36.

Megan Jasinski, Cold Spring Harbor, Jr.

She ran 2:21.12 to win the 800 at the Nassau Class A championship. She took ninth in the 600 at the indoor state championship in March with a 1:36.45.

Joanna Kenney, North Shore, Soph.

Kenney ran 7:37.37 for first in the 2,000 steeplechase at the Nassau state qualifier. She ran 7:44.37 in the same event at the outdoor state championship.

Samara Lawrence, North Babylon, Sr.

She ran 11.99 to win the Suffolk Class A 100. Lawrence placed third in the Federation 400 in 56.16.

Nattaly Lindo, Valley Stream North, Sr.

She took 10th in the Division I shot put with a throw of 34-2 ¾ at outdoor state championship. Lindo threw 38-5 ¼ for fourth in the same event at the indoor state championship in March.

Isabella Lucas, Port Washington, Jr.

Lucas cleared 5-5 ¼ for fourth in the high jump at New Balance Outdoor Nationals. She took second in the triple jump at the Nike Indoor Nationals this March (38- ¼).

Zariel Macchia, Floyd, Jr.

She took second in the 3,000 (9:35.82) and third in the 1,500 (4:25.02) at the outdoor state championship. Macchia also won the indoor 1,000 state title this March in 2:49.23.

Gianna Mauri, Sachem East, Jr.

She took seventh in the 1,500 walk (7:17.26) and the 1,600 walk (7:51.56) at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. She took fifth in the indoor 1,500 walk state championship in 7:00.78 this March.

Sophia McInnes, Bayport-Blue Point, Jr.

McInnes won the Division II outdoor state title in the 1,500 (4:25.95) and the 3,000 (9:43.85).

Grace Micali, East Islip, Soph.

Micali cleared 5-4 in the high jump for second place at the Suffolk Class B championship. She jumped 5-0 at the outdoor state championship.

Olivia Misiukiewicz, Southold, Sr.

She cleared 5-3 for second in the Division II high jump at the outdoor state championship. She cleared 5-5 for first in the same event at the indoor Suffolk state qualifier in February.

Riley Moylan, Oceanside, Jr.

She triple jumped 36-9 ¼ for first at the Nassau Class AAA championship. She took 13th in the long jump at the indoor state championship in March with a 17-¾.

Asha Pensa-Johnson, Hampton Bays, Jr.

She threw 119-1 for fourth place in last year’s outdoor Division II discus state championship. Pensa-Johnson threw 122-2 for first in the same event at the St. Anthony’s Invitational.

Nylah Phillips, Hewlett, Soph.

Phillips ran 57.24 in the 400 at the Nassau state qualifiers. She ran 58.74 in the 400 at the Ocean Breeze Invitational in February.

Jessica Reiter, Seaford, Soph.

She cleared 5-4 to win the high jump at the indoor Nassau state qualifier in March. She cleared 5-0 in for first in the same event at the outdoor state qualifier last June.

Sydney Romano, Wheatley, Sr.

She took third in the Division II outdoor state discus championship with a throw of 117-3.

Jillian Scully, Miller Place, Jr.

Scully won the indoor shot put state championship with a 42-11 ½ throw this March. She threw 131-11 for second in discus at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals last spring.

Danielle Simonetti, East Islip, Soph.

She ran 58.46 for seventh in the Division I 400 at the outdoor state championship. She ran 57.94 for second in the same event at the Suffolk state qualifier.

Paige Sheiffele, Mt. Sinai, Sr.

The Rutgers commit ran 10:00.38 for fourth place in the Division II 3,000 at the outdoor state championship.

Isabella Spagnoli, Great Neck South, Jr.

She ran 7:13.46 to win the Nassau Class AA 2,000 steeplechase, then ran 7:37.61 at the outdoor state championship.

Cameron Stanton, Southold, Sr.

She jumped 17-5 ¼ for fourth in the Division II outdoor long jump state championship. She jumped 17-9 ½ in the same event at the Suffolk state qualifier.

She ran 4:37.29 for ninth in the Division I 1,500 at last year’s outdoor state championship. She ran 4:43.93 in the same event at the Suffolk state qualifier.

Caitlin Style, Bayport-Blue Point, Sr.

Style ran 16-flat to win the 100 hurdles at the Suffolk Class C championship. She took seventh in the Division II 100 hurdles state championship (16.12).

Moanna Thelusca, Valley Stream North, Sr.

Thelusca threw 101-1 for 10th place in the Division I outdoor discus state championship. She threw 118-flat to win the Nassau Class AA title.

Esmia Thomas, Roosevelt, Soph.

She ran 25.73 in the 200 at the Nassau state qualifier and won the same event in 26.09 at the Nassau Class AA championship.

The Northeastern commit ran 4:44.01 for 17th place in the 1,500 at the New Balance Nationals.

Finnley Wickard, Northport, Fr.

She ran 7:06.36 to win the 2,000 steeplechase at the Suffolk Class A championship.

Mia Wickard, Northport, Fr.

Wickard was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island cross country team last fall. She won last year’s Suffolk Class A 3,000 title in 10:09.59.
