Julia Forster helps power St. Anthony's to CHSAA crown

Julia Forster had 18 kills, Madison Fulford had 10 kills and Bridget Hartill had 39 assists to lead No. 1 St. Anthony's (16-0) over No. 3 Kellenberg, 3-0, in the CHSAA final. Samantha Zebuth, who served 10 straight points with St. Anthony's trailing 15-7 in the first game, was named the MVP of the CHSAA championships.
St. Anthony's closed the first game on a Forster kill, won a tight second game and pulled away in the third game. The Friars had not lost a game against a league opponent this year. St. Anthony's qualifies for the State championships at St. Francis Prep on Saturday.
Carle Place 3, East Rockaway 2: Patricia Acipreste had 18 digs and 23 assists, Courtney Mulcare had 10 kills and 20 digs, Laura Murphy had 15 kills and Shannon Weilert had five aces and seven kills to lead No. 2 Carle Place (14-2) over No. 1 East Rockaway, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, to win the Nassau County Class C championship. Carle Place led 22-16 in the deciding Game 5 before East Rockaway answered with seven straight points to take a 23-22 lead. After regaining control Weilert served two straight points and Acipreste finished the match with a kill. Carle Place moves on to play Mattituck in the Long Island Championship at 3 p.m. on Sunday at St. Joseph's College.
Smithtown East 3, Lindenhurst 1: Laura Pugliese had 15 kills and 12 digs, Sam Delaney had seven blocks, Dani Nizich had 48 assists and five aces, Ashley Ruggerio had 39 digs and Kendra Harlow had 10 kills and six blocks to lead No. 1 Smithtown East (16-0) over No. 4 Lindenhurst, 25-17, 24-26, 25-8, 25-15, in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Nizich had three of her aces and Harlow had four kills as Smithtown East bounced back in a critical Game 3 after dropping the second game. Smithtown East moves on to play Hauppauge at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Josephs's College.
Hauppauge 3, Connetquot 1: Danielle Valenza had 28 kills to lead No. 3 Hauppauge (17-3) over No. 2 Connetquot (17-3) in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Veronica Matedero had 10 kills and four aces.
