Mattituck's quest for a state Class C title came to an end Saturday as it went 0-6 in the pool play round of the NYSPHSAA girls volleyball championships at Glens Falls Civic Center.
Mattituck dropped its first two games to Eden, 25-12 and 25-13. The Tuckers didn't have much luck in their next two contests as they came up short to Rhinebeck, 25-16 and 25-11.
Mattituck fell behind 13-6 in Game 1 against Rhinebeck. The Tuckers closed the gap a bit and trailed 17-12, but Rhinebeck stayed even over the next 10 points, just enough to keep Mattituck at arm's length the rest of the way.
In its third set of games, Mattituck came up short against Voorheesville in Game 1, 25-9.
The Tuckers made a go of it in their final game as Voorheesville needed a late rally for the sweep.
Mattituck took a 22-17 lead and later held a 23-21 advantage, but Voorheesville stormed back, outscoring the Tuckers for a 26-24 win.
