Syosset (8-1) started the season 8-0 but had yet to face the trio of JFK, Port Washington and Massapequa.

The Braves, to their credit, made no excuses for the loss. And with those eight wins, they are a shoe-in for the playoffs, regardles of whether they beat Port or Pequa.

"We expected a tough team," Syosset libero Brett Burian said. "We just said, 'hey, we have to try our hardest', but they were the better team."

In girls results from Tuesday, Bellport (9-0) defeated Copiague, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21, in League IV. With three league matches remaining, they have a great shot to finish the regular season undefeated.
