Shannon Dwyer leads Mattituck past Babylon to Class C title
Shannon Dwyer had 11 kills and two aces as top-seeded Mattituck swept No. 2 Babylon, 25-20, 27-25, 25-1, for the Suffolk Class C girls volleyball championship at Patchogue-Medford Monday.
Emily Reimer had nine kills and two aces for the Tuckers (9-7), who play the winner of the East Rockaway vs. Carle Place Nassau championship game in the Long Island final on Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph's College.
Long Beach 3, Manhasset 0: Krista Heidenfelder had seven kills and five aces, Justine Smith 26 assists and eight aces and Dakota O'Neill chipped in 18 digs to lead Long Beach (16-1) in a 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 win in a Nassau Class A semifinal. Long Beach plays the winner of South Side-Wantagh in the final Thursday at 6:30 at SUNY Old Westbury.
South Side 3, Wantagh 2: Junior setter Sydney Gabriel had four aces and a career-high 54 assists and Kayla Principato had 28 kills as No. 3 South Side (13-3) topped second-seeded Wantagh in a Class A semifinal, 25-17, 27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 25-16. South Side plays No. 1 Long Beach in the final Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at SUNY Old Westbury.
East Rockaway 3, Malverne 0: Tiffani Parente had 12 assists and three aces in top-seeded East Rockaway's 25-9, 25-10, 25-16 Class C semifinal victory over fourth-seeded Malverne on Saturday night. Carla Locoteta added six digs, Paige Loyer had seven digs and Kim McCann had nine kills and seven aces for East Rockaway (5-8), which will face Carle Place in the Class C championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Adelphi.
Kings Park 3, Eastport-South Manor 0: Amanda Gannon had 17 kills, 12 digs and an ace, Joelle Goldstein had 13 kills, 18 digs and an ace and Kendall Corcoran had 40 assists, three kills, six digs, two aces and two blocks to lead No. 1 Kings Park (15-0) over No. 5 Eastport-South Manor, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20, in a Suffolk Class A semifinal. Kings Park will face No. 2 Islip in the final Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Bay Shore.
Islip 3, Bellport 1: Mariah Tyler had 43 assists in No. 2 Islip's 25-27, 25-17, 25-21 Class A semifinal victory over No. 6 Bellport. Julia Hande had five aces and 19 kills and Taryn Ohmiller added 17 digs for Islip (11-3).
BOYSSachem East 3, Sachem North 1: Sean Harrington had 13 kills and 22 digs and Ryan Cole 23 kills and three blocks for No. 4 Sachem East in a 25-22, 12-15, 25-22, 25-21 upset of top-seeded in a Suffolk Class A boys volleyball semifinal. Tyler Jones had 21 assists and 13 digs for Sachem East (13-3), which will face No. 2 Lindenhurst in the final for a second straight year Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Westhampton. Sachem East fell to Lindenhurst in the final last season.
Lindenhurst 3, Bay Shore 0: Ryan McDonough had 15 kills, and Steve Schrank had 32 assists to lead No. 2 Lindenhurst (14-2) in a 25-19, 25-14, 27-25 win over No. 3 Bay Shore in a Class A semifinal.
Sayville 3, Center Moriches 0: Scott Litvin had 43 assists and five blocks in for No. 2 Sayville (11-6) in a 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 win over third-seeded Center Moriches in a Class B semifinal. Paul Close added 16 kills and four blocks and Joe Fazio had 11 kills and four blocks for Sayville, which faces Eastport-South Manor in the final Thursday at 4 p.m. at Westhampton.
Eastport-South Manor 3, East Hampton 0: Jon Suarez had 14 kills, five blocks and 13 digs and Eric Ferrante 13 assists for No. 1 Eastport-South Manor (9-6) in a 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 win over No. 4 East Hampton in a Class B semifinal. Tyler Brandow had four aces, six kills and four digs in the win.
Bellmore JFK 3, Jericho 0: Gary Anderson had 18 assists, 12 kills and five aces as top-seeded Bellmore JFK beat No. 5 Jericho, 25-12, 25-13, 25-16, in a Nassau Class B semifinal. Justin Feigeles had 14 kills and five aces, Andrew Sheehan had 19 assists and six kills and Evan Golodner three blocks and four kills for Bellmore JFK (18-0), which will face No. 2 Long Beach in the final Wednesday at 7 p.m. at SUNY Old Westbury.
Long Beach 3, Roslyn 0: Josh Ayzenberg had 33 assists, 10 digs and two aces and Bryan Snow had 17 digs and two aces for No. 2 Long Beach (12-4) in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 win over No. 3 Roslyn in a Class B semifinal. Luke Gelfand added eight kills and three blocks and Marc Graczyk four kills and three blocks in the win.
Port Washington 3, Plainview JFK 1: Steven Lopez had 16 kills, two aces and 10 digs and Alec Nadjari 14 kills and three blocks for No. 3 Port Washington (12-4) in a 25-13, 26-28, 25-21, 25-19 win over No. 2 Plainview JFK in a Class A semifinal. Matt Shevrin had nine kills and three blocks and Kyle Cohen had 19 digs and three aces for Port Washington, which plays No. 1 Massapequa in the final Wednesday at 4 p.m. at SUNY Old Westbury.
