Here is a look at 25 boys volleyball players to watch this year (players are listed in alphabetical order):

Michael Biscardi, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, S, Junior: A court general who distributes the ball well, he has plenty of hitting options on a strong team.

Brennen Brandow, Eastport-South Manor, RS, Senior: Sharks coach Bruce Stiriz has big expectations for Brandow, a player he said could be one of Suffolk’s best.

Steven Carlson, Bellmore JFK, M/OH, Senior: The biggest hitter for last fall’s Nassau Class B champions, he could be even better this year.

Trey Cole, Connetquot, L, Sophomore: The team MVP as a freshman, he plays on the 2017 USA Boys Select A1 National Team.

Nick Crociata, Hauppauge, MH, Senior: An accomplished runner, he was a state champion in the 4x800m relay last spring. He displays his speed and athleticism on the court too.

Daniel Dash, Port Washington, M, Senior: Standing 6-8, his height alone is a weapon on offense and defense. Add his power, and he’s a nightmare for defenses.

David DeRosa, Smithtown West, RS, Senior: A wall on the right side, he made five blocks in last year’s 3-0 upset win over Sachem North in the Suffolk Class A final.

Timothy Drake, Massapequa, OH, Senior: Good elevation and a big swing make him one of the most feared hitters in Nassau Class A.

Nick Galasso, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, OH, Junior: A strong outside who is expected to provide offense for a Hawks team hoping to repeat as county champs.

Sammy Gibson, Long Beach, OH, Senior: Already off to a fast start, he had 23 kills, 16 digs, four aces and two blocks in a 3-1 loss to Massapequa on Sept. 1.

Josh Kaplan, Bellmore JFK, RS/S, Senior: An all-around contributor, he made 21 digs in the county title win over Jericho.

Kevin Kelleher, Smithtown West, L/OH, Senior: At 6-3, he’s one of the most athletic and versatile players for the Bulls, who are returning state finalists.

Jason Koehler, Lindenhurst, MH, Senior: One of the top players on Long Island who is a weapon on both the middle block and as a hitter.

Dan LaRosa, Sachem North, L, Senior: A member of Newsday’s All-Long Island second team last fall, LaRosa could make bigger contributions this year.

Daniel Murphy, Smithtown East, OH, Senior: A two-year starter, Murphy is a reliable contributor on a talented team.

Tommy Ogeka, Eastport-South Manor, OH/L, Senior: A powerful hitter from both the outside and the service line for the reigning state Class B champion.

Connor Pallmann, Sachem North, OH, Senior: A dangerous hitter, he had 166 kills, 3.5 per set played, last season.

Jack Poplawski, Whitman, OH, Junior: Big hitter hoping to lead Wildcats to a big season.

Ben Sandt, Northport, S, Senior: An excellent distributor, Sandt totaled 40 assists in last year’s Suffolk A semifinal, a 3-1 loss to Smithtown West.

Chris Scandole, Long Beach, L, Senior: Ball control and the willingness to dive across the floor make Scandole the back bone of the Marines’ defense.

Kyle Shaffer, Smithtown East, S, Senior: A four-year starter, he is the on-court leader for a team that went 10-4 last season.

Chris Shanley, Smithtown West, OH, Senior: A top talent on Long Island, Shanley had 15 kills in the county final upset of Sachem North.

Troy VonHolt, Lindenhurst, M/RS, Senior: Bulldogs’ top blocker can also play outside and will be utilized all over the court by coach Stacie Wixted.
