Women's ice hockey looking for second straight gold
If anyone thinks the Long Island women aren't hungry for another gold medal, think again.
Four different players scored as Long Island topped New York City, 5-1, in its first hockey match of the Empire State Games. Isabell Whiteley scored twice, while Eleanor Haines, Jessica Spidle and Jordan Schidhaus each added a goal for the Long Island team.
Long Island plays twice on Friday, against Hudson Valley at 9:45 and at 4:45 vs. Adirondack.
Another gold would be the second straight for Long Island, which won in 2008 (there were no games last year) and its third overall.
