De Haan to have surgery Thursday

Isles' 2009 first-round pick Calvin de Haan will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder Thursday, yet another setback for the defenseman prospect.
De Haan was injured in Bridgeport's 3-2 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last weekend, suffering a dislocated shoulder and torn ligament. The only bit of good news, if there could be any for the 21-year-old, is that this is a different ligament than the one de Haan tore while playing for Oshawa in 2010, an injury that also required surgery and six months of rehab.
De Haan's Bridgeport season is done after three games. "He was one of the better players there to start the season," Islanders GM Garth Snow said.
The Sound Tigers are 3-0-0 to start the year, with all three wins backstopped by Kevin Poulin; Anders Nilsson fell ill on opening weekend and will likely make his season debut this coming weekend.
Among the players off to good starts for Scott Pellerin's team are ones you might expect to play well at that level: Nino Niederreiter (3-2-5), Casey Cizikas (2-1-3) and Travis Hamonic (0-3-3, +4), and rookie pros Brock Nelson (1-2-3) and Kirill Kabanov (0-2-2).
