Garth Snow introduced idea of play-in to NHL playoffs
While in Boca Raton, Fl for the annual general manager meetings, Islanders GM Garth Snow did introduce the idea of a play-in premise (teams 8 through 15) for the final playoff spot.
Although this idea didn't gain much traction at the meetings, Snow thought this would bring an element of excitement to the game and would discourage down-and-out teams from simply unloading players at the trade deadline.
Snow said others felt that this would take too much meat out of the regular season.
