Butch Goring says hockey players have long memories, so he expects the Islanders to bring some fire to Tuesday night's game against the Penguins at Nassau Coliseum. Goring, a four time Stanley Cup champion, is a TV analyst and was making the rounds at practice Monday.

Media asked team members about facing the Penguins -- who brawled with the Isles last season -- and what impact that might have in the first meeting this year. The consensus was no carry over, but Goring disagreed. "I don't believe that," he said. "There are some rivalries and heated battles that I was involved in over the years and no, you don’t forget those things. I don’t for a minute believe that's forgotten."

Goring said the way to retaliate is not to wind up in the penalty box. "You are [more] ready to play," he said. "I think you're more intense. When you have games like this, you are ready. It's easier to get up for a game like this than San Jose.''

The Islanders play the Penguins again Thursday. Then host San Jose Saturday.
