Islanders sign prospect Travis Hamonic
The Islanders have signed prospect Travis Hamonic to a three-year, entry-level deal.
The 6-2, 215-pound defenseman was recently named a 2010 Memorial Cup All-Star after the tournament's completion Sunday, when Hamonic's Brandon Wheat Kings lost to the Windsor Spitfires in the championship game.
The 19-year-old Hamonic, a second-round pick in the 2008 draft, is regarded as one of the team's top defensive prospects.
He had a goal and two assists in six games while representing Team Canada at the World Juniors this January and amassed 109 points (29 goals and 80 assists) in his four years of junior hockey.
