Meet the Long Island native who won the Islanders' third jersey fan vote
The Navy Lighthouse jersey was the winner of the Islanders' third jersey fan vote.
The winner of the Islanders’ fan contest to design their third jersey for the 2027-28 season has been revealed.
James Doyle, a 22-year-old Elmont native, is the creator of the navy lighthouse jersey, the Islanders announced Thursday morning.
“Nothing feels real right now,” said Doyle, according to an article on the Islanders’ website. “Seeing the players repost the jersey winning and stuff like that. It's wild. I don't even know how to describe it.”
Doyle is set to receive a team-signed third jersey and tickets to the game in which the jersey makes its on-ice debut.
In the eight-jersey bracket using fan voting to decide the winner, Doyle’s design defeated a navy design with “ISLANDERS” across the chest.
The Islanders received 80,490 jersey submissions in the contest, which started on July 8 and allowed fans to submit designs until July 24.
The winning design had a 0.001% chance of emerging from over 80,000 choices. And it just so happened that the winning creator is from the town in which the Islanders play.
