Islanders fans submitted a whopping 80,490 designs for their favorite team’s first-of-its-kind contest to craft their third jersey for the 2027-28 season.
And now, the process to select the winning design will be expanded.
The Islanders announced Wednesday that the voting will expand to an eight-jersey bracket “because of the incredible number of jersey submissions” with “more details on timing coming soon.”
The team initially planned to put five finalists to an online fan vote early this month, but plans changed with more submissions than expected.
It is the first time in NHL history that a franchise has allowed its fans to create an official team sweater.
The creator of the winning design will receive a team-signed third jersey and tickets to the 2027-28 game in which the jersey will make its on-ice debut.
