It’s been one week since the Islanders launched a first-of-its-kind fan contest to design their third jersey for the 2027-28 season, and the submissions keep on coming.

The Islanders have received 66,141 submissions as of 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, according to the team.

The contest – which launched last Wednesday, July 8, at noon – marks the first time in NHL history that a franchise has allowed its fans to create an official team sweater.

Fans have until July 24 to submit their designs at islesjerseybuilder.com. A committee will select five finalists, whose designs will be put to an online vote in early August. The creator of the winning design will receive a team-signed third jersey and tickets to the game in which the jersey makes its debut.

In the first 30 hours of the contest, the Islanders received nearly 37,000 submissions. The design tool allows fans to choose from 15 striping options, 53 color options, nine Islanders logos and eight different fonts for the nameplate and numbering.

Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman told Newsday last week that the contest is something he “always wanted to do in the NHL.” He previously executed the idea with Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy, whose fans picked a third jersey in 2013.
