Isles name Brent Thompson as Bridgeport head coach
The Islanders have named Brent Thompson the new head coach of the team's AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Thompson spent the past two seasons coaching the Alaska Aces in the ECHL. A successful 2010-11 season for the Aces culminated with the team winning an ECHL championship and Thompson being named the ECHL coach of the year.
The 40-year-old Calgary native was an LA Kings draft choice in 1989; he spent time playing with the Kings, Winnipeg Jets and Phoenix Coyotes before getting into coaching with the Colorado Eagles of the CHL back in 2003.
