Isles trade for goaltender Al Montoya
The Islanders have acquired minor-league goaltender Al Montoya from Phoenix in exchange for a 6th-round draft pick in this year's draft.
Montoya, a former New York Rangers draft pick, is 11-8-0 in 21 games for the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage with a 3.19 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.
The trade comes one day after the Islanders lost 20-year-old rookie Kevin Poulin for the season; Poulin dislocated his left knee cap in a freak accident during warmups last night and will undergo surgery soon.
The 25-year-old former first-round pick (the Rangers selected him 6th overall in the 2004 draft) will report to Bridgeport but is likely to be called up once the Islanders return home from Montreal.
