Isles and Blue Jackets tied at 3 after second period
The Islanders answered with two goals in the first 2:24 of the second period, but couldn’t hold the lead for long. After Michael Grabner’s backhanded equalizer 51 seconds into play and Tavares’ go-ahead goal 1:33 later, RJ Umberger buried a rebound to pull the Blue Jackets even at 6:46.
Isles trail Blue Jackets 2-1 after first period
Shortly after Trevor Gillies pummels Jared Boll for his hit on John Tavares, Trent Hunter scores a short-side goal--his first of the season--to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
Columbus quickly turned things around though after a 5-on-3 power play.
Six seconds after Matt Martin went to the box for boarding, Zenon Konopka took an unwise penalty for trying to smother the puck off the draw. With 1:54 of 5-on-3 time, Antoine Vermette tallied on the PP to tie the game at 13:48. Chris Clark buried a deflected shot 2:10 later for the go-ahead goal at 15:58.
