John Tavares not a Calder finalist
The three finalists for this year's Calder Trophy--the best rookie performer of the season--were released by the NHL and Islanders No. 1 overall pick John Tavares did not make the cut.
Colorado forward Matt Duchene, Buffalo defenseman Tyler Myers and Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard were the top three vote-getters in the category.
That's not to take anything away from a fine 24-goal rookie season, but Tavares was facing some stiff competition in that trio of talents.
The winner will be announced June 23 at the NHL awards in Vegas.
