Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will announce a plan to build "a world-class sports-entertainment destination center" Wednesday at the Coliseum at 11 a.m.

With team owner Charles Wang and other members of the Islanders organization expected to attend, one can assume this will include a new ice rink for the team.

According to the county's advisory, Mangano will also "announce plans to pursue the construction of an Indian gaming casino."

Although Wang's relentless pursuit of the Lighthouse Project has gone nowhere, Wednesday's announcement may reveal a legitimate alternative to the massive development plan.

Wang has been emphatic in expressing his desire to keep the Islanders on Long Island and said he intends to honor the lease with the outdated, decrepit Coliseum, which expires in 2015.
