That aggressiveness is apparently what Islanders coach Jack Capuano wants to see.

"Micheal's one of those guys [whose] personality dictates how he plays. I've had him for a while and he had a short stint last year," Capuano said before the game. "He can play the game, he's got some skill and at the same time he gives us an element of grit."

Haley, who likes to bring "energy and physicality" to the ice, last skated for the Islanders in April.

"I'm not going to be a quick fix or anything," Haley said. "I don't think there's anything wrong, I think we just have to bring some energy. I think we have it in here and we have to change it around."

DiPietro's new jersey

"I came just after the Fisherman," said DiPietro, who was drafted in 2000, three years after the Fish Sticks look was dumped. "I've seen the Fisherman, but, to be honest with you, I'm not a huge fan of that jersey."

Reasoner scratched

Islanders center Marty Reasoner was scratched. Capuano said he wouldn't go "into a discussion about it," that the decision is between Reasoner and the coaches.
