After his 35-save shutout against the Kings on Saturday, Islanders goaltender Al Montoya secured his second straight win Monday with 20 saves against the Panthers.

"It was an early game, a little bit different,'' he said. "You don't want to be that team that comes out flat-footed, but we rolled."

Unlike Saturday's game, Montoya didn't face too much pressure throughout.

"The team's making it easy for me," he said. "Through the first two periods, they only had 12 shots."

With his third win in four games for the Islanders since being traded from Phoenix Feb. 9, Montoya has provided some consistency in goal.

"Night after night, I'm going to play my best. Who knows what the outcome will be?" Montoya said. "I'm just going to leave it out there and show I can play in this league. This has been fun . . . a neat thing to be a part of."

Jack Capuano did not say whether he'll start Montoya again Tuesday against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. But if he does, Montoya will be ready.

"You've just got to play," he said. "There's the chance this year - [the Islanders] have let you know that - for every guy. You want to keep it going and be one of the guys helping every night."

Martin returns

Matt Martin returned to the lineup after serving a four-game suspension for jumping Penguins forward Max Talbot Feb. 11. Martin had three hits in 15 shifts and 11:03 of ice time. Trevor Gillies, who also was suspended after that game, still has four games remaining on his nine-game ban for his elbow to Eric Tangradi.

Forward Rob Schremp and defenseman Bruno Gervais were healthy scratches.
