The Islanders have placed goaltender Nathan Lawson on injured reserve, retroactive to January 21.
Although the 27-year-old was originally slated to miss 1-2 weeks with a MCL strain in his left knee, he is now expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Kevin Poulin and Rick DiPietro will continue to split goaltending duties.
I've been told that Lawson did not suffer a setback. The Islanders apparently felt the need to be more precautious than they originally planned.
I will check to see if there are any more specifics when coach Jack Capuano talks after the skate.
