Bossy leads NHL Stars

The Islanders' Mike Bossy had a goal and an assist as the NHL All-Stars defeated a team from the former Soviet Union, 4-2, before a crowd of 17,438 at Madison Square Garden. It was the opener of a three-game series called the Challenge Cup. Guy Lafleur, Bob Gainey and the Islanders' Clark Gillies also scored for the NHL. Ken Dryden made 18 saves in the win. However, the NHL team lost the second game, 5-4, on Feb. 10, as Bossy added another goal and an assist. Gillies had two assists, and Bryan Trottier had a goal and an assist. The Soviets took the rubber match, 6-0, on Feb. 11. All three games were at the Garden.
