One of the Islanders' top prospects--Russian winger Kirill Petrov-- is doubtful for training camp, according to general manager Garth Snow.

Petrov, a third-round draft pick in 2008, has not secured a release from his contractual obligation with Kazan Ak-Bars of the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (the KHL has already began their 2010-11 season).

Petrov, who spent the majority of the previous 2 seasons playing for Ak-Bars' junior team, has two years left (this season and next) on his contract with Ak-Bars.

Head coach Scott Gordon tagged Petrov as one of the team's most impressive young players during prospect camp, although he was held out of the Blue-Orange scrimmage with a shoulder injury.
