Trade Deadline Day 2011

UPDATE: Isles make no moves, officially done at 3 p.m. deadline

With the NHL's 3 p.m. trade deadline nearing, there are two players that have drawn some serious interest for the Islanders:

Defenseman Radek Martinek and fourth-line forward Zenon Konopka.

While one source told Newsday Sunday that Martinek was garnering significant attention from teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences, Konopka's name has been picking up steam in the rumor mill as well.

Konopka has been frank in expressing his desire to stay with the Islanders and sign another deal here, but  GM Garth Snow will test the waters to see what he can get for the gritty fourth-liner.

Despite his wishes to stay on the Island, Konopka is a good role player for any team looking to make a postseason push. He's 5th in the league from the faceoff circle (57.5%) and leads the league in penalty minutes with 224. He also kills penalties and provides intangibles that makes him a dressing room favorite wherever he goes.

These are the two players I pinpointed as ones to watch for over the last couple of weeks, and it appears they are indeed in play. Will update throughout the day as I hear more.
